On the commoditization of friendship...
I currently have 408 Facebook friends. On my old Facebook account I had close to 800 friends. That is in some way supposed to make both me and them feel special. To be really honest, however, I think that the primary beneficiary is Facebook. The primary asset of Facebook is their social network. With 400 million users and a market value of around 12 billion dollars, the average value of a user on Facebook is close to $30. My friends and I, therefore are worth slightly over $12,000 to Facebook at its present valuation. It is now possible to buy 10,000 friends for your Facebook for under $2000.
Another Blog
And so I start another blog. I have had at least ten so far. We will see how long this one lasts.
